A place to
linger.

A material for the future.

The Hexentanzplatz (witches´ dancing place) at the summit cable car station in Thale is a tourist magnet. The panoramic view of the Harz, with views of the Brocken and Wurmberg mountains, is unique. This special corner of the world now offers yet another attraction: A megawood® sun deck with loungers invites you to take a break and relax. The deck was built using boards from our DELTA series, which are manufactured from our GCC HARZart material. The introduction of this unique material – a milestone in the history of megawood®.

The Harz mountains, one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Germany, parts of which are still untouched nature, are just a few kilometres from our production site in Aschersleben where all megawood® products are developed and manufactured.

It was precisely there, in the geographical heart of Germany, that we wanted to showcase our DELTA decking boards and highlight the use of regional value chains as well as our commitment and responsibility towards the environment, our fellow human beings, and our employees.

The summit station of the gondola lift to the Hexentanzplatz was quickly identified as being the perfect location. Since Mrs Groll, the Managing Partner of Seilbahnen Thale GmbH and her team were very open to the idea of building a sun deck, we were already able to execute the project in May 2022. Due to the weather forecast, the structure had to be erected in just a few days – no problem with the well-designed VARIO FIX substructure system.

The only thing that still needed to be clarified was the question of the models:Who would be able to authentically represent megawood® as a brand and convey our values in a credible and emotional way?

As is so often the case, not only was the good close at hand, but also the answer.

After the CEO Holger Sasse had a spontaneous idea of casting the models from the staff, he immediately started putting this into reality, first asking Kathleen Jorde, his longtime employee and Head of Accounting if she and her family could imagine becoming the faces of the magazine.

Kathleen Jorde did not have to think long. As a dedicated employee with close ties to the company, she was curious about the sun deck. Together with her husband Stefan and their three children, they then went up to the station just a few days later for an on site inspection, including a photo shoot.

As luck would have it, Stefan Jorde is a passionate amateur photographer and captured the family’s trip on camera himself.

“I have been an employee at megawood® since 2011 and I am also a fan of the brand. Our three children were also born during this time. I could always count on the support of my employer – balancing family and career was a completely natural development. When they asked me if I wanted to do the photo shoot, I didn’t have to think twice. The fact that my husband was allowed to take over the part behind the camera was the icing on the cake.“

Perfect for heavy use and the
toughest weather
Our new GCC HARZart material comprises at least 50% wood and up to 30% recycled synthetic resin. The latter is obtained from end-of-life wind power rotor blades, for example, and provides the products we manufacture from GCC HARZart with a very dense and extremely robust surface. Even heavy use and weathering have little effect on the material – for decades. With these special properties, GCC HARZart is the ideal material for heavily used surfaces in tough weather conditions.
